James & Ruth's Wedding
13 November 2021
Thank you for sharing our wedding and we hope to see you there on the day.
To help you on your way, please check out the rest of our site for event details, including information on how to get to Clare, where to stay and more.

COVID-19 Note: Whilst we hope to have as 'normal' a wedding as possible, it goes without saying that the situation could change at late notice. We will endeavour to update our guests with the latest information as its made available by the venue/Irish government.

The latest guidance from the Irish government is that there will be no restrictions on weddings from 22nd October.
Note: Travellers arriving into Ireland from the UK will need to provide evidence of their
full vaccination status using the NHS Covid Pass and complete a
Passenger Locator form
https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/ireland/entry-requirements

We want all our guests to feel comfortable at our wedding and so would ask that consideration is taking by all in regards to the wearing of masks in confined spaces, regular hand washing and social distancing where possible is followed.

The latest information on wedding restrictions can be found at:

Our Wedding "Test" Weekend
Hours of Play
For those of you who love cricket as much as we do, you will know it goes on forever and so...
taking that as our inspiration:

Welcome Drinks
The weekend will start with informal welcome drinks at the Armada Hotel at 8pm on Friday.
Please note: Current restrictions in Ireland mean that the Hotel is only able to serve residents staying at the hotel.
From 22nd October, it is hoped this will extend to non-residents as well.
Ceremony
Our ceremony will take place at the Our Lady Star of the Sea, Quilty, Co. Clare.
The church is a short (5-10min) drive from the Hotel, and we will also be looking to provide a
shuttle service from the hotel to the church.
Please let us know if you would be interested in the shuttle service.

Dinner and Drinks
Back at the Armada, there will be a drinks reception and nibbles to warm you up.
Dinner, dodgy speeches and some even dodgier dancing 'til late to follow.

The Day After
For any brave souls who would like to blow off the cobwebs, we (er, Ruth) will be going for a sea dip around 10am on Sunday on Spanish Point beach, right outside the hotel.
Those fancying a lie-in can join us for a farewell brunch at the hotel from 11am.
Please note: Current restrictions in Ireland mean that the Hotel is only able to serve residents staying at the hotel.
From 22nd October, it is hoped this will extend to non-residents as well.

We would be grateful if you could RSVP by text, email or using the contact form at the bottom of this page.

Getting to Clare
If travelling from overseas, we really appreciate you making the journey. For those of you based in Ireland...you can probably skip this bit..but thanks also!

Shannon airport is the closest and most convenient airport for the ceremony and venue. The airport is around an hour from the Armada Hotel.
There are direct flights to Shannon from most UK airports with Ryanair (Gatwick, Stansted, Birmingham) and Aer Lingus (Heathrow). For those travelling from Jersey, we recommend flying to Gatwick and then getting an onward flight to Shannon.

Other airport options include Cork airport (2h 30mins from the hotel) and Dublin airport (3h from the hotel).

For onward travel, Shannon has a number of car hire companies to choose from, picking up direct from the airport. Where possible, we hope to arrange pick-ups for people arriving into Shannon on the evening of Friday, 13th November. If this is of interest, please let us know when RSVPing.

If Rain Stops Play...
Things to do
Being the west of Ireland in November, rain is likely but don't let that stop you! If you are interested in turning the weekend into a longer trip, we have put together some ideas below.

Cliffs of Moher
The Cliffs are a UNESCO world heritage site and the second most visited tourist site in Ireland. They are a 20 minute drive up the coast from the Armada and in November, we recommend planning your trip around sunset when it is quieter.

If feeling vigorous, we recommend the cliff-top walk from Liscannor or Doolin to the Cliffs. There are car parking facilities at the starting points and the walk provides great views. The weather can be very changeable so pack for all seasons!

Doolin
Doolin is a lovely little fishing village a further ten minutes drive up the coast from the Cliffs and one of our favourite places in Clare. It is lovely for a browse around the shops, game of pitch & putt, walk on the pier and a pub lunch.

If you have a few hours to spare, we recommend doing the cliff-top walk from Doolin to the Cliffs and back, followed by a trip to O'Connors Pub to warm up with their seafood chowder.

Fr. Ted's House & The Burren
http://www.fathertedshouse.com/
https://www.burrennationalpark.ie/

For something a little bit different, you can visit the house featured in the Fr. Ted series. It is located on the edge of the Burren, a national park renowned for its 'lunar' landscapes.

Galway City

Galway is Ireland's most westerly city and a great location if staying for an extra night or two while still being within easy reach of Shannon airport. The city is known for its friendly atmosphere, traditional music and cosy pubs.

Cheers & Go Well
Thank You
Yet another wedding, in November, on the west coast of Ireland, with a somewhat dubious theme...
Wherever you are travelling from, thank you for making the effort to come and share our day.

We hope you will enjoy the crashing Atlantic waves, roaring fires, dodgy dancing and a proper pint or two. We are excited to spend the weekend catching up and celebrating with you.
Hope to see you there,
James and Ruth
